Birds of Beirut: Art That Resists
Wabi-sabi in Beirut — original artworks by Jeane Satie
The Work: Wabi-Sabi in Beirut
First of all, my art explores wabi-sabi in Beirut — that space where language fails and silence speaks. In this ancient city, I collect feathers from the streets. Each one carries a story of resilience, of flight, of survival.
Furthermore, I paint birds that cannot fly, and then I give them wings through texture and color. In addition, I create Godivas — feminine figures with contours that never close, because the soul accepts no frames.
Moreover, each work is painted with acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, incorporating real feathers and materials collected from the streets of Beirut. Therefore, these are not just paintings. They are testimonies of wabi-sabi in Beirut — the beauty of the imperfect, the incomplete, the fleeting.
In short, this is art that resists. Born in Beirut, shared with the world.

About the Artist
Jeane Satie is a nipo-Brazilian artist based in Beirut, Lebanon. Her work explores identity, displacement, and resilience through the lens of cultural hybridity.
Born in São Paulo to Japanese-Brazilian parents, she carries the ancestral memory of immigration, adaptation, and the silent strength of those who build portable empires. Although her roots are in Brazil and Japan, her art is a dialogue between cultures — Japanese precision, Brazilian warmth, and the wabi-sabi philosophy she discovered while living in Beirut.
Her work has been collected by diplomats, humanitarian professionals, and art lovers who resonate with her message of resistance and hope.
